NCT ID NCT05336955
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study compares telehealth versus in-person mental health services for 339 youth and young adults (ages 12-45) with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) who are enrolled in the START crisis prevention program. Researchers will measure changes in caregiver experiences, mental health symptoms, and crisis service use over one year. The goal is to see if telehealth can provide equal or better access to care for this underserved group.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
telehealth mental health services (START program)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that telehealth is a good option for providing mental health crisis support to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, improving access to care.
What could go wrong
This is a relatively small study (339 people) and only looks at one specific program (START). Results may not apply to other settings or populations. The study is also not testing a new drug or cure.
