Breathing training from home shows promise for DMD children
NCT ID NCT07172737
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study tested whether breathing muscle exercises done at home via video calls could improve lung function and quality of life in 40 children with Duchenne muscular dystrophy. The children, aged 5-17, used a device to strengthen their breathing muscles. Researchers measured changes in breathing strength and daily breathlessness. The goal is to find a simple, accessible way to help manage respiratory problems in DMD.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Functional inspiratory muscle training via tele-rehabilitation
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a convenient home-based way to help children with Duchenne muscular dystrophy breathe easier and improve daily life.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed study with only 40 participants. Results may not apply to all children with DMD, and the benefits might be modest.
