Can online classes help parents of kids with hydrocephalus feel less anxious?
NCT ID NCT06313879
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tested whether a structured online education and counseling program could help parents of children with hydrocephalus and a ventriculoperitoneal (VP) shunt feel less anxious and more confident. Fifty-nine parents took part, receiving video lessons and scheduled tele-counseling over three months. The goal was to see if this approach could ease parental stress and improve their sense of ability to care for their child.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Tele-education and counseling program
What this could lead to
If it works, this could give parents a simple, at-home way to feel less anxious and more capable when caring for a child with a VP shunt.
What could go wrong
This was a small, completed study with only 59 participants, so results may not apply to all families. The intervention is behavioral, not a medical treatment, so it won't change the child's physical condition.
