Can a hospital team boost HIV care and cut readmissions?
NCT ID NCT05866523
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether a team-based program (called ARTAS) helps people with HIV get connected to care after leaving the hospital and reduces the chance of coming back. The team includes infectious disease doctors and social workers who provide support during the hospital stay and up to 90 days after. The study will enroll 250 adults with HIV who are not currently in regular care.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
team-based behavioral intervention (inpatient consultation and case management)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that a coordinated team approach in the hospital improves HIV care follow-up and lowers readmission rates.
What could go wrong
This is a relatively small, early-stage behavioral study, so results may not apply broadly. Success depends on patient engagement and follow-up, which can be challenging.
