Shock therapy for bowels: new patch may speed up recovery after colon cancer surgery

NCT ID NCT07574502

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests a non-invasive device called transcutaneous electrical acustimulation (TEA) in 190 elderly patients (65+) recovering from colorectal cancer surgery. The device delivers mild electrical pulses to the skin to stimulate bowel function. Participants receive TEA or a sham treatment twice daily for three days after surgery. The goal is to see if TEA helps them pass gas and have bowel movements sooner, reducing complications like bowel blockage.
