Zapping the brain to save speech: new hope for aphasia?

NCT ID NCT04566731

First seen Nov 15, 2025 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 16 times

Summary

This study tested whether a gentle brain stimulation technique called tDCS, combined with language therapy, could improve speech in 23 people with primary progressive aphasia (a condition where language slowly gets worse). Participants received either real or fake stimulation daily for two weeks, and their language and brain scans were checked before, right after, and up to 24 weeks later. The goal was to see if the treatment could ease symptoms and help understand how the brain changes in this disease.
