Trial challenges 6-Month TB treatment rule for thousands

NCT ID NCT07163143

Summary

This trial aims to find the best way to treat people who have early signs of tuberculosis (TB) on a chest X-ray but whose sputum tests come back negative. It will test whether shorter courses of TB drugs (from 8 to 24 weeks) work as well as the standard 6-month treatment, or if careful monitoring without immediate drugs is a safe option. The study will follow 784 people in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Pakistan for 78 weeks to see which approach best prevents the disease from getting worse.
