Scientists peek inside lungs to see how immune cells react to TB
NCT ID NCT05027958
First seen Nov 06, 2025 · Last updated May 13, 2026 · Updated 27 times
Summary
This study looked at how immune cells in the lungs respond to a TB protein called PPD. Seventeen adults—some with latent TB (no active disease) and some never exposed—received PPD directly into the lung during a bronchoscopy. Researchers then collected lung cells and used PET-CT scans to track immune activity. The goal was to understand tissue-specific immune responses, not to treat or cure TB.
