New study tests if a tube-based valve fix can match surgery for tricky heart valve disease
NCT ID NCT06597188
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 25 times
Summary
This study compares a newer, less invasive procedure called TAVR (replacing the heart valve through a tube) with traditional open-heart surgery for people with severe narrowing of a bicuspid aortic valve. About 452 participants aged 75 or younger will be randomly assigned to one of the two treatments. The main goal is to see if TAVR is as safe and effective as surgery, looking at deaths, strokes, and hospital readmissions over one year.
