New heart valve technique aims to reduce complications in common birth defect

NCT ID NCT05511792

Summary

This study compares two methods for sizing replacement heart valves in patients with a bicuspid aortic valve—a common birth defect where the aortic valve has two leaflets instead of three. Researchers want to see if using a slightly smaller valve size leads to fewer complications like pacemaker implantation and valve leakage compared to the standard sizing method. The trial involves 206 patients across multiple medical centers who will receive a transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) procedure.
