New rinse aims to stop deadly heart device infections
NCT ID NCT07158502
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether TauroPace, an antimicrobial solution, can prevent infections in people getting implantable heart devices like pacemakers. Infections after these surgeries are rare but serious, sometimes fatal. The trial will compare TauroPace to standard saline rinsing in 1000 adults.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
TauroPace (taurolidine solution)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could provide a simple, non-antibiotic way to prevent serious infections after heart device surgery.
What could go wrong
This is a single study with 1000 people. TauroPace may not reduce infections more than standard care, and rare allergic reactions are possible.
