First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jul 16, 2026 · Updated 3 times
Summary
This study tests whether a 12-week at-home taste and smell training program can improve taste function in cancer patients who experience taste changes from tyrosine kinase inhibitors. Ninety participants across 12 Dutch hospitals will be randomly assigned to the training or standard care. Researchers will measure taste and smell before and after the program, along with food enjoyment and other outcomes.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- taste and smell training
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this simple at-home training could help cancer patients enjoy food more and reduce taste problems caused by their medication.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage trial with only 90 participants, and the training may not improve taste or smell for everyone. Results may not apply to all cancer patients.
