Quick test could help doctors pick the right antibiotic for Kids' infections

NCT ID NCT05066854

Summary

This study aimed to see if a quick genetic test on a child's urine sample could safely help doctors choose a more targeted, narrow-spectrum antibiotic for a simple bladder infection, instead of automatically using a stronger, broad-spectrum one. It compared two groups of children in the emergency room: one where doctors used the test result to guide their choice, and another where they followed standard practice. The goal was to see if the test-guided approach worked just as well for recovery while reducing the use of stronger antibiotics that can contribute to resistance.
