Blood test may end need for risky vein sampling in adrenal hypertension

NCT ID NCT07297745

First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether measuring certain hormones in a blood sample can accurately identify which patients with primary aldosteronism (a common cause of high blood pressure) have a curable adrenal tumor. Currently, diagnosis often requires an invasive procedure called adrenal vein sampling. If the blood test works, it could simplify diagnosis, reduce risks, and help more people get the right treatment. The trial will enroll 120 adults who are willing to undergo both the blood test and standard procedures to compare accuracy.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ€” not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
blood test for hybrid hormones (18-oxocortisol, 18-hydroxycortisol)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could make diagnosing curable adrenal-related high blood pressure faster, cheaper, and less invasive for patients worldwide.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage diagnostic study with only 120 participants. The blood test may not be accurate enough to replace current invasive methods, and results may not apply to all patient groups.
