Eczema cream showdown: which Non-Steroid treatment works best for kids?
NCT ID NCT07519174
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study compares two prescription creams, tacrolimus and crisaborole, for treating mild to moderate eczema in children and teens aged 2 to 20. Both creams are steroid-free and aim to control inflammation without the side effects of long-term steroid use. Over 8 weeks, 72 participants will apply one of the creams twice daily, and researchers will measure how much their eczema improves and whether they have any side effects.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
tacrolimus 0.03% ointment and crisaborole 2% ointment
What this could lead to
If this trial shows one cream is clearly better or safer, it could help doctors choose the best steroid-free option for children with eczema.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 72 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. Both creams can cause skin irritation like burning or stinging.
