Could a thyroid hormone help ARDS patients breathe easier?

NCT ID NCT04115514

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 25 times

Summary

This study tests whether giving a thyroid hormone (T3) directly into the lungs is safe and can improve oxygen levels in adults with acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) who are on a ventilator. About 68 critically ill patients will either receive T3 or standard care. The goal is to see if T3 helps clear fluid from the lungs and reduces inflammation, leading to better oxygenation.
