New device aims to catch debris and prevent stroke during artery stenting
NCT ID NCT07277296
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests a new device called SwitchGuard NPS that is designed to catch loose debris and protect the brain during a procedure to open narrowed neck arteries. About 103 people with carotid artery stenosis who are at high risk for standard surgery will receive the device along with a stent. Researchers will track how many have a stroke, heart attack, or die within 30 days.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
SwitchGuard™ NPS (a device that catches debris during stenting) used with the CGuard™ Prime 80 carotid stent
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a safer way to open blocked neck arteries and reduce the risk of stroke during the procedure.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with no comparison group, so results may not apply to everyone. The device itself carries risks like stroke, heart attack, or death.
