Which monitor best predicts fluid response in surgery? new study aims to find out
NCT ID NCT07260890
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study compares two monitors used during laparoscopic abdominal surgery to see which one better predicts whether giving fluids will help the heart pump more effectively. About 300 adults having elective surgery will receive small fluid boluses, and the monitors' readings will be compared. The goal is to improve how doctors manage fluids during surgery, potentially leading to safer care.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this study could help doctors choose the best monitor to guide fluid therapy during surgery, potentially improving patient safety and outcomes.
What could go wrong
This is a single-center diagnostic study, not a treatment trial. The results may not apply to all surgeries or patients, and the monitors may not perform as expected in real-world settings.
