Special stitches aim to stop dangerous leaks after complex pancreas surgery

NCT ID NCT07318493

Summary

This study is testing whether using sutures coated with an antiseptic during a major pancreas surgery (called a Whipple procedure) is better than standard sutures at preventing a serious complication called a pancreatic fistula. A fistula is a leak of digestive fluid that can cause severe infections and longer hospital stays. Researchers will randomly assign patients to receive either the antiseptic-coated or standard sutures during their surgery to see which group has fewer leaks and related problems.
