Summary
This study is testing if weight-loss surgery is better than standard medication for people who are obese and have just been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. It will compare a specific surgery (laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy) with conventional drug therapy over several years. The main goal is to see which approach is more effective at getting and keeping blood sugar under control without needing daily medication.
