Glowing glands: new light device aims to make neck surgery safer and faster

NCT ID NCT05152927

Summary

This study tested a new tool called PTeye that uses near-infrared light to help surgeons see and identify tiny parathyroid glands during surgery to remove them. The goal was to see if using this light could make surgeries quicker, reduce the need for extra tissue tests, and lower the chance that patients would need a second operation. The study involved 79 adults with a condition called primary hyperparathyroidism who were having this specific neck surgery.
