New nerve surgery offers hope to end chronic pain after mastectomy

NCT ID NCT04530526

Summary

This study tested a new surgical technique to treat chronic pain that can develop after breast removal surgery (mastectomy). The surgery, called a Regenerative Peripheral Nerve Interface (RPNI), aims to treat painful nerve endings. Researchers followed 26 women for about a year to see if the surgery reduced their pain, anxiety, and need for opioid painkillers.
