New stomach surgery aims to tame heartburn without bypass
NCT ID NCT07158008
Summary
This study is comparing two different weight-loss surgeries for people who are obese and also suffer from chronic acid reflux (GERD). Researchers want to see if a newer procedure, which reshapes the stomach and adds a valve to prevent reflux, works as well as the current standard surgery that reroutes the intestines. About 560 participants will be assigned to one of the surgeries and followed for a year to measure heartburn relief, weight loss, and complications.
