New study tests gentler way to give breathing medicine to preemies

NCT ID NCT07350018

First seen Jan 21, 2026 · Last updated Apr 29, 2026 · Updated 17 times

Summary

This study compares two medications (calfactant and poractant alfa) used to treat breathing problems in very premature babies (born before 30 weeks). The medicines are given through a thin tube instead of a breathing tube, which may be gentler on the lungs. Researchers will see which medicine works better at preventing the need for a breathing tube and other complications in the first few days of life.
