New study offers a helping hand after devastating eye diagnosis

NCT ID NCT07292987

Summary

This study is testing whether adding structured emotional and nursing support right after someone is diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa (RP) improves their experience and mental health. RP is a rare genetic disease that causes progressive vision loss, and receiving the diagnosis can be very distressing. Researchers will compare the new support program, which includes early nurse check-ins and a psychologist visit, to the usual care to see if it helps patients feel more satisfied and less anxious or depressed.
