New radiation approach aims to tame central lung tumors
NCT ID NCT03306680
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Jun 23, 2026 · Updated 36 times
Summary
This early-stage trial tests a precise, high-dose radiation technique called SBRT for lung cancers located near the center of the chest (ultra-central). The goal is to find the highest safe dose that keeps the risk of serious side effects under 30%. About 30 patients will receive different radiation doses, and researchers will track tumor control and quality of life over time.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
radiation therapy (SBRT)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could establish a safer radiation dose for hard-to-treat lung tumors near the center of the chest.
What could go wrong
This is an early, small phase 1 trial with only 30 participants. The main risk is serious side effects from radiation, and the dose that works may not control the cancer well.
Conditions
