NCT ID NCT07481344

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether a 30-minute online class and monthly reminders can help ultrarunners use more sunscreen and protective clothing. 110 runners in the 2026 Western States Endurance Run will be randomly assigned to the class or a general wellness brochure. Researchers will measure changes in sun protection knowledge and behavior before and after the race.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

What this could lead to

If it works, this could show that a short online course helps ultrarunners protect themselves from the sun, potentially reducing skin cancer risk.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage study with only 110 runners. The results may not apply to other groups, and the education might not change real-world behavior.
