Sleep drug trial aims to tame suicidal thoughts in veterans

NCT ID NCT06854224

Summary

This study is testing if a medication called suvorexant, which affects brain chemicals related to sleep and alertness, is safe and tolerable for veterans with major depression and a high risk of suicide. Over four weeks, 30 participants will take the drug and complete various computer tasks and questionnaires to measure changes in suicidal thoughts, aggression, and attention. The main goal is to see if this approach is feasible before larger studies can test if it actually helps reduce suicide risk.
