NCT ID NCT06941311

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tested a combination of two approaches for Black teenagers who came to the emergency room with suicidal thoughts or behaviors. The first is a type of talk therapy called Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Suicide Prevention (CBT-SP), and the second is a support team made up of caring adults chosen by the teen. The goal was to see if this combined approach is acceptable and practical to use in a community mental health setting. Six teens participated in this initial open trial.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Suicide Prevention (CBT-SP) plus a Youth-Nominated Support Team (eYST)
What this could lead to
If this approach works, it could offer a practical way to reduce suicide risk in Black adolescents by combining therapy with support from trusted adults.
What could go wrong
This was a very small, early-stage study with only 6 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. It focused on feasibility, not on proving the therapy reduces suicide attempts.
