New VA study aims to keep at-risk veterans safe by counseling on firearm storage

Summary

This study will test a brief counseling program for Veterans who are at risk of suicide and have access to firearms. The program uses motivational interviewing to encourage safer storage of lethal means. About 50 Veterans and their clinicians will take part to see if the program is practical and well-received. The goal is to gather information to support future, larger studies on suicide prevention.
