Sugar shock: could a sweet snack change your eye thickness?

NCT ID NCT07376005

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study looks at what happens to the back of your eye (the choroid) after you eat sugar. Healthy adults without diabetes will consume 30 grams of glucose tablets, and researchers will measure changes in choroidal thickness over time. The goal is simply to learn more about how diet affects eye structure, not to treat any disease.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

oral glucose (sugar tablets)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could help explain how diet influences eye health and potentially guide future research on conditions like myopia.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage observational study with only 47 participants. It does not test a treatment, so results may not lead to any direct medical application.
