Searching for a warning sign: blood test could flag epilepsy patients at risk of sudden death
NCT ID NCT03419000
Summary
This study aimed to find a blood test that could identify epilepsy patients at risk for dangerous breathing problems during seizures. Researchers measured tiny molecules in the blood of 75 adults with hard-to-treat epilepsy and compared those who had low oxygen during seizures to those who did not. The goal was to discover a warning sign that could help doctors prevent sudden unexpected death in epilepsy (SUDEP).
