Routine suctioning before tube removal may be unnecessary, new study suggests
NCT ID NCT07287293
First seen Jan 06, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 21 times
Summary
This study looks at whether skipping the step of suctioning the breathing tube before removing it is safe and might even be better for patients. About 408 adults having planned surgery will be randomly assigned to either receive routine suctioning or no suctioning. The main goal is to see if oxygen levels stay just as good without suctioning, and if patients have less coughing and sore throat afterward.
