Sugar-Digesting enzyme trial for short gut patients ends early
NCT ID NCT04604275
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 27 times
Summary
This study looked at whether giving an enzyme called sucrase could help people with short bowel syndrome digest sugar more easily. The condition often causes stomach pain, bloating, vomiting, and diarrhea after eating sugar. The goal was to see if the enzyme would reduce these symptoms and allow patients to tolerate more food by mouth or feeding tube. The study was terminated early and only enrolled 3 participants, so results are very limited.
