Tiny hands, big relief? su jok therapy tested for newborn pain
NCT ID NCT07164820
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether Su Jok therapy—a technique using hand massage and seeds on specific points—can lower pain in newborns during a heel lance blood test. Sixty-six full-term babies will be randomly assigned to receive the therapy or standard care. Pain will be measured using a validated scale by experienced nurses and doctors.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Su Jok therapy (hand massage and seed application)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a simple, drug-free way to ease pain in newborns during routine blood tests.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 66 babies. The therapy may not reduce pain significantly, and results may not apply to all newborns.
