Braces breakthrough? study tests if widening upper jaw can fix overbite in kids

NCT ID NCT03286569

First seen Jan 10, 2026 · Last updated May 17, 2026 · Updated 23 times

Summary

This study looks at whether a device that widens the upper jaw can also help the lower jaw grow forward in children aged 9-11 with a deep overbite. Sixty kids will get either an active or inactive expander, and special X-rays will measure changes in jaw size and position after 9 months. The goal is to learn more about how jaw growth works, not to provide a final treatment.
