Timing of birth defect diagnosis may impact parent trauma

NCT ID NCT04911036

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study measures and compares post-traumatic stress in mothers (and some fathers) of children born with esophageal atresia, a condition where the esophagus doesn't connect properly. Researchers want to see if learning about the condition before birth (antenatal) versus after birth (postnatal) leads to different levels of trauma. About 240 parents from 34 French hospitals will fill out questionnaires when their child is 12-24 months old.
