Selective t cell removal may reduce transplant complications in leukemia patients

NCT ID NCT02220985

First seen Jun 08, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 08, 2026

Summary

This study tested a method to prevent graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) in 84 leukemia patients receiving donor stem cell transplants. By removing a specific type of immune cell (naive T cells) from the donor graft, researchers aimed to lower GVHD risk while preserving infection-fighting and anti-leukemia effects. The approach was evaluated in patients with various leukemias and myelodysplastic syndrome, using related or unrelated donors.
