Doctors check if skipping meals before surgery is safe

NCT ID NCT01258361

Summary

This study aimed to find out if not eating or drinking before surgery (preoperative fasting) causes a significant drop in a patient's blood volume. Researchers enrolled 100 patients scheduled for gynecological or abdominal surgery. They used heart ultrasound scans to measure blood volume changes before and after the required fasting period.
