Steroid mystery in kids: scientists seek answers

NCT ID NCT02252237

First seen Nov 20, 2025 · Last updated Apr 30, 2026 · Updated 14 times

Summary

This study looked at 146 children taking common steroids (prednisone, prednisolone, methylprednisolone, hydrocortisone) to understand why each child processes the drug differently. Researchers measured drug levels in the blood and checked for genetic and other factors that might explain the differences. The goal is to help doctors personalize steroid doses to improve effectiveness and reduce side effects.
