Common brain scan could unlock lifesaving stroke care worldwide

NCT ID NCT07001852

Summary

This study is testing whether a simple, widely available brain scan (non-contrast CT) can safely identify stroke patients who could benefit from a clot-removing procedure up to 72 hours after symptoms begin. The procedure, called endovascular therapy, is proven to help when done within 6 hours using advanced imaging, but many hospitals lack that technology. If successful, this simpler approach could expand access to this treatment globally, especially in rural or underserved areas. The trial will enroll 500 adult stroke patients who will be randomly assigned to receive either standard medical care alone or standard care plus the clot-removing procedure.
