Can a heart ultrasound predict your stroke risk?
NCT ID NCT04649034
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This completed study looked at 258 people with different types of cardiomyopathy (a disease of the heart muscle) to see if special imaging could predict stroke risk. Researchers used echocardiograms and MRI scans to measure blood flow in the heart and check for silent brain infarcts (small strokes without symptoms). The goal was to find better ways to identify who is at highest risk for stroke.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could help doctors better predict stroke risk in people with certain heart conditions using standard imaging tests.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, not a treatment trial. It may not lead to any direct changes in patient care or outcomes.
