Stroke survivors may walk better with exercise before therapy

NCT ID NCT07650500

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether adding 20 minutes of moderate-to-high intensity aerobic exercise before constraint-induced movement therapy helps stroke survivors walk better. Fifty adults who had a stroke at least 6 months ago will take part in a 4-week intensive program, followed by an 8-week home telerehab program using a mobile app. The goal is to see if the exercise boost leads to lasting improvements in walking, balance, and daily activity.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Lower Extremity Modified Constraint-Induced Movement Therapy plus moderate-to-high intensity aerobic exercise

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a more effective rehab program that helps stroke survivors walk better and stay active at home.

What could go wrong

This is a small early-stage trial with only 50 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The intensive program may be hard to stick with, and home telerehab might not work for all.
