Virtual reality or backward walking: which helps stroke survivors walk better?
NCT ID NCT07550270
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study compares three types of walking training for people who have had a stroke: forward walking with body support, backward walking with body support, and virtual reality-assisted walking. The goal is to see which method best improves walking ability, balance, and overall function. Thirty participants will train five days a week for six weeks.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
gait training (body weight-supported forward, backward, or virtual reality-assisted)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could point toward more effective rehabilitation strategies to improve walking and balance in stroke survivors.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 30 participants, so results may not apply to all stroke patients. The interventions are physical therapies, not a cure.
