Shock and move: new combo therapy boosts stroke arm recovery

NCT ID NCT07531381

First seen Apr 26, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 4 times

Summary

This study tested whether adding neuromuscular electrical stimulation (gentle electrical pulses to muscles) to task-oriented training (practicing everyday movements) helps stroke survivors regain arm and hand function. 45 people who had a stroke 6 to 24 months earlier took part. Researchers measured movement quality, spasticity, and coordination before and after the treatment to see if the combination worked better than training alone.
