Simple stretches may ease asthma symptoms, small study finds
NCT ID NCT07331662
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tested two types of stretching exercises—thoracic cage stretching and intercostal stretching—in 56 adults with asthma. The goal was to see if these stretches could improve chest expansion, reduce shortness of breath, and increase oxygen levels. Participants did the stretches four times a week for 30-40 minutes. The findings could offer simple, non-drug ways to help manage asthma symptoms.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
stretching exercises (thoracic cage stretching and intercostal stretching)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could point toward simple, drug-free exercises to help asthma patients breathe easier and feel less short of breath.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed trial with only 56 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. Stretching alone is unlikely to replace standard asthma treatments.
