Precision radiation may buy more time for patients with spreading cancer
NCT ID NCT06918951
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether a precise, high-dose radiation technique called SABR works better than standard palliative radiation for people whose cancer has spread to a few new spots while on treatment. About 194 adults with solid tumors (excluding lymphoma or myeloma) and up to 5 growing lesions will be randomly assigned to receive either SABR or standard radiation. Neither the patient nor their doctor will know which treatment they get. The goal is to see if SABR can delay the need for a new systemic therapy and improve quality of life.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Stereotactic ablative radiotherapy (SABR)
What this could lead to
If SABR works better than standard palliative radiation, it could help people with a few progressing tumors delay the need for stronger systemic therapy and improve their quality of life.
What could go wrong
This is a phase III trial, but it is still recruiting and results are not yet known. SABR may not improve outcomes over standard care, and there is a risk of side effects from higher radiation doses.
