New surgery could let patients keep part of their stomach after cancer

NCT ID NCT07260461

First seen Dec 10, 2025 · Last updated May 22, 2026 · Updated 18 times

Summary

This study tests a new surgery that removes only the cancerous upper part of the stomach, instead of the whole stomach. The goal is to help patients lose less weight and have better nutrition after surgery. About 120 adults with early-stage upper stomach cancer will be randomly assigned to get either the new stomach-saving surgery or the standard full removal. Researchers will compare weight loss, quality of life, and side effects one year after the operation.
