Hidden STIs may be causing misdiagnosed bowel disease
NCT ID NCT07061899
Summary
This study aims to find out how many patients diagnosed with a type of rectal inflammation (proctosigmoiditis) actually have an underlying sexually transmitted infection (STI) like Chlamydia or Gonorrhea. Researchers will test over 200 patients during their standard colonoscopy exams to see if these common STIs are present. The goal is to see if routine STI screening should be added to the diagnostic process to ensure patients get the right treatment faster.
