Listening for trouble: can a smart stethoscope save dialysis patients?

NCT ID NCT07436559

Summary

This study tested whether an electronic stethoscope could help doctors detect and predict dangerous narrowing in the special blood vessels (arteriovenous fistulas) that dialysis patients need for treatment. Researchers recorded sounds from 30 long-term dialysis patients' blood vessels over three months, comparing the stethoscope readings to doctors' physical exams and ultrasound scans. The goal was to see if this simple tool could spot problems early, potentially preventing treatment failures and complications.
